Parents of Abuser in Kiena Dawes Case
A man and woman from Blackpool have admitted to the kidnap of a 10‑month‑old baby girl, in a case that links directly to one of the Fylde Coast’s most tragic recent stories – the death of Kiena Dawes.
Guilty Pleas at Preston Crown Court
- Michael Wellings, 50, of Housman Close, Blackpool
- Lisa Green, 52, of Haddon Road, Blackpool
Both appeared at Preston Crown Court on 16 October 2025, where they pleaded guilty to a single count of kidnap.
The charge relates to an incident on Carlyle Avenue, Blackpool, on 19 August 2022, when police were called at around 10:15am after reports that a baby girl had been taken. Officers launched an urgent search and by 11:10am had arrested the pair and safely returned the child home.
The Kiena Dawes Connection
The case takes on wider significance because Wellings and Green are the parents of Ryan Wellings, the abusive ex‑partner of 23‑year‑old Kiena Dawes, who died on railway tracks near Barnacre in July 2022.
- Ryan Wellings was convicted in January 2025 of assault and controlling/coercive behaviour, receiving a six‑and‑a‑half‑year sentence.
- In her final messages, Kiena wrote: “Ryan Wellings killed me” and “ruined every bit of strength I had left”.
- He was cleared of manslaughter but found guilty of sustained abuse.
Lisa Green was also charged in relation to the Dawes case, accused of perverting the course of justice alongside Ryan and his girlfriend Emma Croft.
Police Response
Lancashire Constabulary confirmed the baby was unharmed:
“Two people have admitted to kidnapping a baby in Blackpool. By 11.10am our officers had identified and arrested two suspects and safely returned the child.”
Why It Matters
This latest guilty plea underscores the wider criminal fallout surrounding the Wellings family.
- Ryan Wellings is serving a prison sentence for abuse.
- His parents have now admitted to kidnapping a baby in Blackpool.
- Lisa Green has faced additional charges linked to obstructing justice in the Dawes case.
Together, these cases paint a disturbing picture of abuse, manipulation, and criminal behaviour that has left a lasting mark on the Fylde Coast.
Next Steps
Michael Wellings and Lisa Green will be sentenced at a later date, once related legal proceedings have concluded. Both remain in custody.
In summary: The kidnap of a baby girl in Blackpool is not an isolated crime – it is part of the wider, harrowing story of Kiena Dawes’ death and the Wellings family’s role in abuse and obstruction of justice. The guilty pleas at Preston Crown Court ensure sentencing will now reflect the seriousness of both the offence and its wider context.
